Gaza City, May 25, 2025: A four-year-old boy, Mohammed Yassin, has died of starvation in Gaza City as a result of the ongoing Israeli blockade on food, water, and humanitarian aid, according to the civil defence agency.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal confirmed the child’s death and issued a grave warning over the worsening humanitarian crisis.
“This is not the first child to die in Gaza as a result of starvation,” Basal said. “If food and drink are not allowed to reach the people of the Gaza Strip, we will witness many more deaths of these children. We will witness more deaths.”
The spokesperson urged the international community to take immediate action, calling for efforts to end the blockade and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
The tragedy underscores the dire humanitarian conditions in the besieged enclave, where shortages of essential supplies have escalated due to the prolonged conflict and restricted aid access.
International aid agencies have repeatedly warned that children in Gaza are facing extreme malnutrition, with many suffering from wasting and dehydration as food insecurity deepens across the territory.
Calls have intensified for unhindered humanitarian corridors and urgent international intervention as Gaza’s civilian population, particularly children, continues to bear the brunt of the crisis.
