Nowshera, March 9, 2025: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has condemned the assassination of Maulana Hamidul Haq, declaring that violence against religious scholars is terrorism, not jihad.
“You are not warriors; you are murderers and criminals. Any weapon raised against Islam is an act of terror,” he said while visiting Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak to offer condolences.
Expressing deep sorrow, he recalled the killing of Maulana Samiul Haq, stating, “The pain of his martyrdom was still fresh, and now his son has been taken from us. The walls of Darul Uloom Haqqania mourn this loss.”
Fazlur Rehman revealed he had prior knowledge of a possible operation against Darul Uloom Haqqania and had warned authorities of its consequences.
“JUI does not engage in armed politics, but if any harm comes to Darul Uloom Haqqania, there will be a response,” he asserted, emphasizing that Maulana Hamid was a peaceful man.
Condemning the use of violence in the name of jihad, he stated, “Killing a scholar is not jihad—it is terrorism.”
The JUI-F chief decried recent attacks on mosques and religious leaders, recalling that scholars were even killed while praying.
“When Allah’s name is recited in mosques, angels surround them. Yet, these so-called warriors target places of worship. In Balochistan, a scholar was murdered while praying.”
Recalling past assassinations, he added, “Maulana Hasan Jan was martyred. How can I call his killer a warrior? These dark times will pass, but our madrasas and scholars will endure.”
Reaffirming his commitment to religious institutions, Fazlur Rehman declared, “I am a cleric, the son of a cleric. Those who attack us should be ashamed.”
“You think you can erase us? Our elders left us two things: faith and ideology—and we will protect them at all costs. We once prayed for your guidance. Now, beware of the curses of the oppressed.”
