Adelaide, March 17, 2025: Tragedy struck the cricketing community in Adelaide, Australia, as Junaid Zafar Khan, 40, collapsed and died during a match at Concordia College Oval amid scorching temperatures of 41.7°C.
Junaid, who had fielded for 40 overs and batted for seven, suddenly collapsed on the field. Emergency medical teams were immediately called, and CPR was administered, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
His club expressed deep sorrow, acknowledging the efforts of paramedics and the devastating loss of their teammate.
The Adelaide Turf Cricket Association mandates that matches must be canceled if temperatures exceed 42°C, with precautionary measures for games played above 40°C.
Despite the extreme conditions, Junaid had been playing while fasting for Ramadan, though a friend confirmed he had been drinking water that day.
The president of the Islamic Society clarified that no official cause of death has been determined, stating that no evidence currently links fasting to the incident.
Junaid’s tragic passing has left the local cricketing and Pakistani community in mourning, as tributes pour in for the respected sportsman.
