Islamabad, April 7, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday said that the government is developing a long-term strategy to ensure the recent decline in global oil prices translates into tangible benefits for the economy and the public.
Chairing a high-level meeting on maritime sector reforms, the premier announced the formation of a dedicated task force to restructure and modernize the maritime industry — a move he described as essential for boosting trade and economic activity.
During the session, PM Shehbaz also revealed a significant reduction in electricity tariffs, with prices cut by an average of Rs7.50 per unit. He termed the move a major relief for both domestic consumers and industrial sectors.
He further noted that additional reforms are underway to bring power tariffs down even further, which would help reduce production costs across industries and stimulate economic activity.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction with the country’s improving macroeconomic indicators and emphasized that his administration has worked diligently to provide financial relief amid challenging circumstances.
“We are committed to ensuring that the positive effects of economic stabilization and reduced energy costs reach both the common citizen and national industries,” he said.
