Islamabad, April 13, 2025: A visiting delegation of U.S. Congress members praised Pakistan’s pivotal role in global counterterrorism efforts during a high-level meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad, where both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in security, trade, and investment.

The bipartisan congressional delegation included Representatives Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, and Jonathan Jackson. Acting U.S. Ambassador Natalie Baker, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, and Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha also attended the meeting.

The talks focused on enhancing bilateral relations, with an emphasis on counterterrorism collaboration, border security, intelligence sharing, and boosting economic ties through expanded trade and investment opportunities.

Welcoming the delegation, Interior Minister Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s central role in combating global terrorism. “Pakistan stands as a frontline state and a barrier between terrorism and the rest of the world,” he stated. He also welcomed the upcoming Pakistan Caucus event scheduled for April 30 in the U.S. Congress, calling it a “positive step” toward greater engagement.

Naqvi urged the international community to deepen cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in intelligence sharing and technological support for counterterrorism operations.

Minister of State Talal Chaudhry echoed these sentiments, noting that the upcoming Joint Counterterrorism Dialogue, slated for June in Islamabad, will be crucial in expanding strategic coordination between the two countries.

The U.S. lawmakers commended Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and acknowledged the country’s commitment to global peace and security. They also praised the Pakistani-American diaspora as a vital bridge between the two nations, describing them as “talented, resilient, and capable.”

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts to deepen U.S.-Pakistan ties, particularly in the context of evolving regional dynamics and shared economic and security interests.
