Hailstorm, thunderstorm, and heavy rain forecast for Friday and Saturday: NEOC

Islamabad, April 17, 2025: The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rain, strong windstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms expected on the evenings of Friday and Saturday, April 18–19, 2025.

According to the advisory, these severe weather conditions are likely to affect parts of the Pothohar region, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as Upper Punjab (Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Jhelum) and Central Punjab (Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura).

The NEOC alert warned that strong winds and heavy downpours may uproot trees and result in temporary power outages. Dust storms, windstorms, and hailstorms could also damage rooftops, power lines, vulnerable structures, vehicles, and glass-based installations. Hail poses a particular threat to standing crops, potentially affecting agricultural productivity.

Reduced visibility during heavy rain and dust storms may increase the risk of traffic accidents, the advisory noted. The NDMA has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, secure loose outdoor objects, and stay indoors during periods of intense weather.

Residents, especially tourists and people living in landslide-prone areas, are advised to remain vigilant, follow all local safety instructions, and stay updated via official sources.

The NDMA also encouraged the public to download the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app for real-time updates and emergency notifications. Travelers should verify road conditions before setting out and consider postponing non-essential trips until the weather stabilizes.

The public is reminded that access to timely, verified information and strict adherence to safety advisories is critical for ensuring personal and community safety during severe weather events.
