Indian platform halts HBL PSL broadcast amid tensions following Pahalgam attack

New Delhi, April 24, 2025: Indian sports streaming platform FanCode has suspended all live broadcasts and coverage of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) following the deadly attack in Pahalgam, a town in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Indian media reported on Thursday.

The move comes amid rapidly deteriorating diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan. FanCode, which held exclusive digital streaming rights for PSL in India, had already aired 13 matches of the league’s 10th edition before pulling the plug. As of Thursday, all HBL PSL-related content—including match replays, highlights, and promotional material—had been removed from the platform’s website and mobile applications.

Citing unnamed sources, the Hindustan Times reported that the suspension was a direct consequence of the Pahalgam attack, in which Indian authorities claim 26 tourists, including a Nepali national, were killed in what is being described as a terrorist incident. India has attributed the attack to actors linked with Pakistan, a claim Islamabad has vehemently denied, labeling it a “false flag operation.”

In a related development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that it would not engage in any bilateral cricket series with Pakistan in the foreseeable future. This marks a significant setback for regional sports diplomacy and effectively isolates Pakistan from one of its largest viewership markets.

The PSL broadcast suspension is part of a broader set of retaliatory measures taken by India in the wake of the Pahalgam incident.
