Lahore, April 29, 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in the final stages of its consultation process to appoint a new head coach for the national team, with an official announcement expected shortly after May 4, sources have confirmed.

Among the top contenders, New Zealand’s Mike Hesson has emerged as a strong candidate, particularly for the role of head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball teams. Hesson, who currently serves as the head coach of Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), is widely respected for his strategic acumen and experience in limited-overs formats.

Sources close to the matter indicate that PCB is waiting for the application deadline to close before making a final decision. The board is expected to finalize the appointment in time for the upcoming five-match T20I home series against Bangladesh.

The series is scheduled to begin on May 25, with the first two matches in Faisalabad followed by three games in Lahore. The Bangladesh squad is set to arrive in Pakistan on May 21.

Meanwhile, PCB has also shortlisted five players for potential inclusion in the T20I squad. The list includes experienced names like Sahibzada Farhan, Hussain Talat, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf, and emerging fast bowler Ali Raza.

Hesson’s appointment, if confirmed, will mark a strategic move by PCB to strengthen its white-ball unit ahead of a busy international calendar. His proven track record with New Zealand and in franchise cricket could bring a fresh perspective to Pakistan’s short-format strategy.
