Gandapur denied jail visit to Imran Khan, warns of retaliation against Maryam Nawaz

Rawalpindi, May 8, 2025: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur lashed out at jail authorities on Thursday after being prevented from meeting PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, despite a court order permitting the visit.

Speaking to the media outside the facility, Gandapur condemned the move as a violation of legal norms and vowed to file a fresh contempt of court petition. “I had court permission to meet Imran Khan, yet I was stopped at the gate. This is a clear breach of law,” he said.

Gandapur criticized what he called selective enforcement and political bias, stating, “I left behind urgent matters in my province to meet my party leader. Unfortunately, there is no rule of law left in the country.” He also claimed that, despite Khan’s personal request, he has been given the least access among senior party members.

Issuing a stern warning, the KP chief minister said that if such treatment continues, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz should not expect a peaceful reception in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or the freedom to visit her residence in Nathia Gali. “If I am barred from meeting my party leader, she should reconsider her plans in KP,” he warned.

Thursday was an official visitation day at Adiala Jail, intensifying criticism over Gandapur’s exclusion and fueling allegations of political interference.

The incident adds to growing tensions between the PTI-led KP government and the PML-N-led Punjab administration, as political friction deepens across the country.
