Karachi, June 25, 2025: Pakistan booked their place in the final of the Asian Doubles Squash Championship with a gritty 2-1 semifinal victory over Malaysia on Wednesday in a match that lasted over an hour.
The Pakistani duo of Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal edged past Malaysia’s Syafiq Kamal and Duncan Lee in a tense three-game battle, with scores of 10-11, 11-9, 11-9, sealing their spot in the title clash after one hour and eight minutes of high-intensity play.
The second-seeded Pakistani pair has impressed throughout the tournament. On Tuesday, they advanced to the semifinals after a hard-fought 2-1 quarterfinal win over Korea’s Jiang Min Ryu and Jaijin Yoo.
Earlier in the group stage, Pakistan cruised past both the Philippines and South Korea, showcasing dominance and consistency. They comfortably defeated the Filipino team 11-7, 11-4, and followed up with another convincing performance against the Korean pair.
Although Noor Zaman had suffered an early exit in the Asian Individual Championship after a close pre-quarterfinal defeat, he has bounced back strongly in the doubles format alongside Iqbal.
Pakistan will now face top-seeded India in what promises to be a high-stakes final showdown. The Indian pair of Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthilkumar awaits, setting the stage for a classic Pakistan-India squash rivalry.
The final is expected to draw significant attention across the region, as both sides vie for the coveted Asian title.
