Bajaur, July 10, 2025: Awami National Party (ANP) leader and former National Assembly candidate Maulana Khan Zeb was among three people killed in a brazen gun attack near Shindai Mor, just steps away from Khar Tehsil headquarters in Bajaur district on Thursday.
According to police reports, unidentified assailants opened fire on Zeb’s vehicle as he was campaigning for the upcoming July 13 Bajaur Pasoon (uprising). The assault claimed the lives of Zeb, his police security officer Sepahi Sher Zada, and another individual. Three others—Dr Tariq, Shahsawar, and Osman—were seriously injured and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The attack occurred in a high-security area, close to army and Frontier Corps (FC) camps and adjacent to the official colony’s perimeter wall, raising serious concerns over the security situation in the region.
Following the incident, residents placed Maulana Zeb’s body in Khar Bazaar, staging a protest to condemn the violence and demand justice. The funeral prayers for the slain leader will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in his native village of Nawagai.
Maulana Khan Zeb was a well-known political figure in Bajaur and had previously contested national elections on the ANP ticket. His killing marks a significant blow to the party and adds to a growing list of political violence incidents in the tribal districts.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack, though no group has yet claimed responsibility.
