Islamabad, October 6, 2024 – Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, has clarified that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is not in police custody. During a press conference on Sunday, he stated that Gandapur is neither in the custody of the police nor any other law enforcement agency.

IG Rizvi emphasized, “However, it is evident that he orchestrated this disruption.”

He further explained that during the violent protests in Islamabad, 56-year-old police officer Hameed Shah lost his life. “Yesterday, Hameed Shah was attacked and assaulted by protesters at Chungi No. 26,” he said.

Providing more insight, IG Rizvi noted, “The plan to storm Islamabad was led by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.” He added, “Everyone witnessed who was leading the protesters as they overran the entry and exit points of the city.”

IG Rizvi also mentioned that ten cases have been registered under anti-terrorism laws against the individuals involved in the “storming” of Islamabad. “This wasn’t a protest—it was chaos, a siege, an attack.”

He went on to inform the media that 878 rioters, including 120 Afghan nationals, have been arrested for their role in the violent protests. Rizvi claimed, “The critical issue here is that state resources from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were used in this unrest.” He added that tear gas, weapons, and batons belonging to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police were used during the demonstrations. “Among those arrested, eight are active-duty officers.”

According to IG Rizvi, 31 Islamabad police officers were injured during the protests. He concluded by stating that the police will now target the hideouts within Islamabad where these miscreants originated from and will arrest all individuals involved in the unrest.
