Lahore, August 1, 2025: At least 25 passengers were injured when six bogies of the Islamabad Express derailed near Kala Shah Kaku on Friday. The incident occurred close to Nullah Dek, between Sheikhupura and Muridke, while the train was en route from Lahore to Islamabad.

According to rescue officials, three of the derailed bogies overturned, triggering chaos and panic among passengers. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of confusion as passengers attempted to rescue fellow travelers before emergency teams arrived.

Six Rescue 1122 vehicles were later dispatched to the scene, where they were joined by police and railway authorities in launching a coordinated relief and rescue operation. However, initial accounts from the site suggest that rescue services were slow to reach, with many injured passengers left to assist each other in the immediate aftermath.

Rescue teams confirmed that over 25 people sustained injuries, though no fatalities have been reported. Emergency first aid was administered on-site, while critically injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals in Sheikhupura and Lahore.

The derailment occurred near Nullah Dek, a small canal adjacent to the railway track. Railway officials reported discovering broken pieces of track at the site. The train was reportedly traveling at 105 km/h at the time of the accident.

In response to the incident, Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has taken notice and directed the CEO of Pakistan Railways and the Divisional Superintendent to immediately reach the accident site. He also instructed railway staff to expedite relief operations and ensure that medical teams are present on-site without delay.

Abbasi announced that an inquiry has been launched and ordered the submission of a detailed report within seven days.

Meanwhile, medical and relief trains were dispatched from Lahore to assist in rescue operations, as authorities work to restore normal rail traffic and determine the exact cause of the derailment.
