DG ISPR rejects Sohail Warraich’s claim, terms column ‘misleading’

Rawalpindi, August 21, 2025: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Thursday categorically rejected claims made by journalist Sohail Warraich regarding an alleged interview with the Chief of Army Staff, terming them “misleading and irresponsible.”

Speaking to reporters, the military spokesperson clarified that no such interview had taken place. He said the incident referred to in Warraich’s column was related to a public event in Brussels where hundreds of people took photographs, adding that there was “no mention of PTI or any discussion about an apology” at that gathering.

The DG ISPR accused Warraich of seeking personal publicity through “a false and inappropriate claim,” stressing that such behavior was unbecoming of a senior journalist. He reiterated that anyone violating the law would be held accountable.

Highlighting the Army’s professionalism, Lt Gen Sharif said Pakistan remains a resilient nation with the potential to shape the destiny of the region, which is why it continues to face repeated attacks. He urged the youth to draw strength from the country’s ideological foundation and resist extremist or proxy influences.

Quoting the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) on the occasion of the conquest of Makkah — “Truth has come, and falsehood has perished. Indeed, falsehood is bound to perish” — he said the Prophet’s (PBUH) struggles offer guidance for Pakistan’s own journey through hardships.

On defense matters, the DG ISPR underlined that despite a modest defense budget of Rs80 billion, Pakistan stands as a nuclear power. He noted that while countries like Iran have spent far more without achieving nuclear capability, Pakistan attained this milestone through resilience and determination.

He further warned against propaganda aimed at undermining national morale, saying attempts were being made to portray Pakistan as a failed state while projecting India globally as a “shining state” and “Vishwaguru.” Such narratives, he cautioned, were designed to sow despair among the youth.
