Islamabad, September 8, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to accelerate relief operations and ensure full preparedness as rising water levels in major rivers threaten further flooding across the country.

Chairing a high-level meeting to review the situation, the prime minister stressed the importance of early warning systems and timely evacuation of at-risk populations. He instructed the NDMA to intensify the search for missing persons in flood-hit areas and maintain close coordination with provincial governments and disaster management authorities.

The NDMA chairman briefed the meeting on the latest situation, including flooding in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers at critical points such as Trimmu Barrage, Panjnad Barrage, Head Balloki, Head Sidhnai, Ganda Singh Wala, Head Sulemanki, and Head Islam.

Officials informed the prime minister that convoys of relief goods were being continuously dispatched to affected areas, while rescue operations and evacuations were ongoing. The meeting also reviewed the scale of displacement caused by the floods.

Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated that safeguarding lives remained the government’s top priority and urged all institutions to remain on high alert amid forecasts of further flooding.
