London, September 18, 2025: US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he disagreed with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the recognition of a Palestinian state, marking a rare point of divergence between the two leaders during Trump’s state visit to the UK.

Speaking at a joint press conference after bilateral talks, Trump said:
“I have a disagreement with the prime minister on that score, one of our few disagreements, actually.”

Starmer, however, emphasized that both leaders shared the same ultimate objective.
“We absolutely agree on the need for peace and a road map, because the situation in Gaza is intolerable,” the British premier said.

When asked about reports suggesting he would wait until Trump’s departure to formally recognise a Palestinian state this weekend, Starmer dismissed the speculation.
“I made my position clear at the end of July as to the timing, which has got nothing to do with this state visit,” he said.

He added that his talks with Trump were “as you would expect, amongst two leaders who respect each other and like each other and want to bring about a better solution in the best way that we can.”
