Islamabad, October 2, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised the participation of Pakistani citizens in the Global Sumud Flotilla, calling it a dignified expression of the nation’s humanitarian commitment.

“The involvement of our citizens reflects Pakistan’s peaceful aspirations and their dedication to humanitarian principles,” the premier said in a statement on Thursday. He stressed that the mission was backed by the people of Pakistan and aimed solely at delivering relief to besieged Gaza.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s stance, he added: “The Government of Pakistan affirms its commitment to uninterrupted humanitarian aid, and calls for the immediate release and safe return of all Pakistani participants. We continue to pray for their safety and dignity, and remain actively engaged to ensure their swift return home.”

On Wednesday, Israeli forces intercepted the Global Resistance Flotilla — an international convoy of over 40 vessels carrying more than 500 participants, including parliamentarians, lawyers, and climate activist Greta Thunberg. The flotilla, which set sail to break the blockade on Gaza, was transporting food and medical supplies.

Organisers reported that several vessels had lost communication following the raid, while live feeds from ships went offline. Earlier, participants noted heightened drone surveillance and the approach of unidentified ships before Israeli forces closed in.

Among the Pakistani delegation was Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, who said in a video message shortly before the raid that the convoy had reached close to Gaza and Israeli naval vessels were visible in the distance.
