Karachi, October 16,2024- The Sindh government has announced its decision to initiate a judicial inquiry into the incident involving Dr. Shanawaz. Following directives from Provincial Minister for Interior Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjhar, the Sindh Home Department has written to the Registrar of the Sindh High Court.

The letter states that, according to a police inquiry, Dr. Shanawaz Kanbhar was killed in a staged encounter. It calls for the formation of a judicial committee to investigate the incident and determine those responsible. The inquiry is to be conducted by a sitting justice of the Sindh High Court.

Last month, Dr. Shanawaz was killed in a fake police encounter in Umar Kot, Sindh, following allegations of blasphemy. The victim’s family had appealed to higher authorities for an investigation into the murder. The Sindh government has also confirmed that Dr. Shanawaz was indeed killed in a fabricated police encounter.
