Second test: England posts 239 for 6 against Pakistan in first innings

Multan, October 16, 2024 –England concluded the second day’s play with a score of 239 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, requiring an additional 127 runs to overtake the host team’s first innings total during the second test being played at Multan.

At the Multan Cricket Stadium, the English openers began the innings with an aggressive approach. However, Zak Crawley was dismissed for 27 runs at a total of 73, followed by Ollie Pope, who managed 29 runs. Joe Root added 34 runs, while Ben Duckett delivered an impressive performance with 114 runs before his dismissal. Sajid Khan claimed the wicket of Harry Brook who went out without scoring.

As the day’s play came to an end, England had two wickets remaining, with Jamie Smith at 12 runs and Braden Karse at 2 runs, both ready to resume their innings on the following day.

For Pakistan, spinner Sajid Khan was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets, while Nauman Ali claimed 2 wickets.

Earlier in the first innings, Pakistan was all out for 366 runs. Resuming their innings at 259 runs for 5 wickets, they added only 5 runs before wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for 41 runs. Agha Salman contributed 31 runs, and Sajid Khan scored just 2 runs.

Aamer Jamal and Nauman Ali built a partnership of 49 runs for the 9th wicket, but Aamer was dismissed for 37 runs. Nauman Ali later scored 32 runs before falling to Jack Leach. For England, Jack Leach was the leading bowler with 4 wickets, supported by Braden Karse with 3 wickets, Matthew Potts with 2 wickets, and Shoaib Bashir with 1 wicket.
