Islamabad, October 24, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Shaheen Chowk underpass project in Islamabad, marking another major step toward easing traffic congestion in the federal capital.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said multiple infrastructure and mobility projects were underway to accommodate the city’s growing traffic and improve urban connectivity. He lauded the efforts of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman, and their teams for “working tirelessly to make Islamabad more efficient, organized, and aesthetically appealing.”

Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of timely completion of development works, especially with major international events such as the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference on the horizon. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing full institutional support for the rapid and effective execution of infrastructure projects aligned with national development priorities.

Addressing the ceremony, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the Shaheen Chowk underpass had been carefully designed to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion at one of the city’s busiest intersections. He added that parallel development activities were also underway on Margalla Road and 9th Avenue, where long-standing traffic bottlenecks were being resolved through modern engineering solutions.

Officials expressed confidence that the completion of these projects would significantly enhance mobility, reduce travel time, and improve the overall urban experience for residents and commuters in Islamabad.
