Tehran, October 29, 2025: Pakistan and Afghanistan’s interior ministers briefly met on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Tehran on Wednesday, exchanging handshakes and holding short talks amid heightened tensions between the two neighbours.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that bilateral disputes should be resolved through dialogue, comparing disagreements between nations to issues within a household that are best settled through communication.

The meeting came days after talks in Istanbul between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime collapsed. Pakistan has since announced new operations against terrorists and their sponsors operating from across the border.

Following the failed negotiations, Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar said no practical outcome had been achieved, accusing the Taliban of failing to provide assurances to halt cross-border terrorist attacks despite what he called “indisputable evidence” presented by Pakistan.

Tarar said the Afghan delegation had repeatedly avoided addressing the core issue, reiterating that Pakistan would continue to take decisive actions to eliminate terrorists and their facilitators.
