Islamabad, October 21,2024- Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that today is an historic day day in Pakistan. While addressing at the National Assembly Prime Minister said “Today, a significant milestone has been achieved with the passing of the 26th amendment to the Constitution.”

The Prime Minister highlighted the moment as a powerful example of national unity and consensus, stating, “A new dawn will rise, bringing light across the entire country.” He noted that in the past, governments were ousted through palace conspiracies, and prime ministers were removed from office, but now it has been firmly established that “Parliament is supreme.”

Shehbaz Sharif reflected on the 2006 agreement between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, saying, “Today, that agreement has come into effect.” He paid tribute to both the late Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif for their contributions.

The Prime Minister emphasized that no votes from defectors were used in passing the constitutional amendments, underscoring that these amendments would secure a stronger and more stable future for Pakistan.

Commenting on the judiciary, Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the contributions of judges who made historic decisions but also pointed out that some judges’ actions had tarnished the institution’s reputation.

He praised Bilawal Bhutto for his sincere efforts and hard work on the amendment, and thanked Maulana Fazlur Rehman for moving forward in the best interest of the nation despite past grievances. “I wish the PTI had also participated in this constitutional amendment; it would have been much better,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister concluded by commending those present in the assembly for setting aside personal egos to accomplish this remarkable achievement. “The dark clouds that were looming over Pakistan have now dissipated,” he said.
