Lahore, October 21,2024- The Punjab government has granted deputy commissioners the authority to impose Section 144. Following the approval of the legal draft by the Punjab Assembly, a gazette notification has been issued.
According to the law, deputy commissioners can impose Section 144 in their respective districts for up to 30 days, as needed. Additionally, the Punjab Home Secretary has been given the authority to impose Section 144 for up to 90 days, while the cabinet holds the power to extend it beyond 90 days. The notification also states that the Punjab government has amended the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1898.
