Peshawar, November 30, 2025: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday dismissed reports that the federal government is preparing to impose governor’s rule in the province, saying he has received no official communication on the matter.

“I am hearing through the media that governor’s rule is being imposed. To this day, I maintain that for now, there is no talk of governor’s rule,” Kundi told reporters during an informal interaction in Peshawar.

He acknowledged that the Constitution provides a legal mechanism for governor’s rule but reiterated that he has not been consulted. “The Constitution contains a provision for governor’s rule, but no one has spoken to me,” he said.

Kundi added that the fragile security situation and administrative challenges in the province leave little space for widespread protests or political agitation. “I believe our province’s conditions do not allow protests. The province is already burdened with issues, including law and order,” he said.

His remarks follow a series of media reports suggesting that the federal government is reviewing options for enforcing governor’s rule in K-P, including discussions on whether to retain Kundi or appoint a new governor.

According to sources, six potential candidates are under consideration—three political figures and three retired military officers. Among the political names being floated are former chief minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, former defence minister Pervez Khattak, and senior politician Aftab Sherpao.

If political consensus proves difficult, the government may consider appointing a retired military officer. Those reportedly under review include former Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General (r) Khalid Rabbani, Lieutenant General (r) Ghayur Mehmood, and Lieutenant General (r) Tariq Khan.

While initial indications suggest a preference to retain Governor Kundi, officials say all options remain on the table.

Meanwhile, sources in the Prime Minister’s Office have clarified that no formal decision has yet been made regarding the imposition of governor’s rule in the province.
