Peshawar, November 30, 2025: Political and administrative circles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are abuzz with reports that preparations for the possible imposition of governor rule are in motion, with several prominent names under consideration for the key position.
According to sources, the foremost contender is the incumbent Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who may continue in office even after governor rule is enforced. His continuation is being viewed as the most seamless option to maintain administrative stability.
However, other political heavyweights are also in the running. These include former Chief Minister Amir Haider Hoti, former Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, and veteran politician Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao — all of whom have previously held significant roles in KP’s political landscape.
Sources further reveal that if political consensus cannot be reached on any of these civilian candidates, the government may consider non-political figures for the role. In that case, the names of retired Lieutenant General Ghayur and retired Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani are reportedly being evaluated as potential alternatives.
The final decision is expected soon, as authorities move to ensure an orderly transfer of administrative authority should governor rule be formally declared.
