Brussels, December 11, 2025: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi held an important meeting on Thursday with European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner, focusing on preventing illegal immigration, curbing human smuggling, and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Commissioner Brunner commended the Government of Pakistan for achieving a 47% reduction in attempts to reach Europe through illegal dunki routes over the past year, calling the country’s efforts “exemplary.” He announced that he would soon visit Pakistan to acknowledge its progress and hold further consultations on future cooperation.
During the meeting, Interior Minister Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s aggressive crackdown on human smuggling networks, noting that 1,770 smugglers and agents had been arrested this year under the government’s zero-tolerance policy.
Both sides agreed to reinforce joint strategies against illegal immigration, human smuggling, and drug trafficking. They also committed to enhancing cooperation through improved information-sharing mechanisms.
Naqvi underscored Pakistan’s global leadership role in combating human smuggling and narcotics control. He warned that the nexus between smugglers, drug mafias, and terrorist groups posed a serious threat to all nations and required robust international collaboration.
The meeting concluded with both Pakistan and the European Union reaffirming their resolve to continue working together to counter illegal migration and dismantle smuggling networks.
