Islamabad, December 18, 2025: Pakistan’s intelligence agencies have dealt a significant blow to ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) with the arrest of Sultan Aziz Azzam, the group’s spokesperson and founder of its official media wing, the Al-Azaim Foundation.
Security sources stated that Azzam played a central role in ISIS-K’s recruitment and propaganda activities. Following his arrest on May 16, 2025, the terrorist organization’s media operations, including major platforms such as “Voice of Khorasan”, have reportedly been suspended.
This arrest forms part of a series of high-profile actions by Pakistani authorities against ISIS-K networks, which have significantly weakened the group’s organizational structure and operational capabilities. Several key commanders and ideological leaders, including senior leader Abu Yasser al-Turki, have also been neutralized in these operations.
The impact of Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts is highlighted in the 16th report of the United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, which notes that these actions have disrupted multiple planned attacks, reduced the number of active militants, and curtailed the group’s propaganda machinery at a global level.
These developments mark a major success for Pakistan’s intelligence and security agencies in the ongoing fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
