Islamabad, January 13, 2026: The social media platform X experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday, affecting thousands of users worldwide, before services gradually stabilized, according to Downdetector.

The outage began around 9:00 a.m. ET, with more than 28,300 issues reported in the United States at its peak, before dropping to approximately 700 reports later in the day. In the United Kingdom, reports fell from over 8,000 to around 130, while Canada saw complaints decline after exceeding 3,200 earlier. In Pakistan, user complaints peaked at 93 around 7:38 p.m. and fell to four by 8:23 p.m.

Downdetector, which tracks outages by compiling user reports from multiple sources, noted that the actual number of affected users may differ from reported figures. X did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the cause of the outage.

The platform has faced similar disruptions in the past. In November 2025, a Cloudflare outage temporarily blocked access to X due to a faulty security configuration, while a few days later, another issue took the platform offline for thousands of US users. On March 10, 2025, users in Pakistan and globally experienced an outage attributed by Elon Musk, X’s owner, to a cyberattack.

The service gradually returned to normal, restoring access for users around the globe.
