Islamabad, January 14, 2026: The Philippine Embassy in Pakistan has conveyed its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Ambassador Samuel T. Ramel, a distinguished career diplomat who passed away on January 6 at the age of 86.

In a condolence message, the embassy paid tribute to Ambassador Ramel’s nearly four decades of dedicated service to the Philippine foreign service, highlighting his significant contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between the Philippines and Pakistan during his tenure as Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

A native of Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, Ambassador Ramel devoted 37 years of his life to diplomacy. In addition to his posting in Pakistan, he served as Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador to Mexico, and Consul General in Hamburg.

He also held the position of Director-General of the Foreign Service Institute, where he played a pivotal role in training and mentoring generations of Filipino diplomats, many of whom later rose to become ambassadors and senior officials within the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Ramel earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of the Philippines and a Master of Arts in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies at Erasmus University, Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.

The embassy noted that Ambassador Ramel will be remembered not only for his diplomatic achievements but also for his lasting impact on Philippine foreign service and international relations.
