Islamabad, February 9, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday chaired a high-level inter-ministerial meeting to review steps aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s economic and trade cooperation with the European Union.

Chairing the meeting, the DPM/FM emphasized the need to deepen and broaden trade and economic engagement with the EU, describing it as one of Pakistan’s most important economic partners, particularly under the Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP Plus).

Senator Dar noted that Pakistan has successfully completed four biennial GSP Plus reviews, underscoring the country’s continued adherence to the scheme’s requirements. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fully meeting its obligations under GSP Plus in order to expand mutually beneficial trade opportunities with the European bloc.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Foreign Affairs Ambassador Amna Baloch, the secretaries of Commerce, Interior, Overseas Pakistanis and Human Rights, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, as well as senior officials from relevant federal and provincial departments.
