Houston, Texas, February 9, 2026: In the vibrant heart of downtown Houston, just steps from the lively Discovery Green Park, a breathtaking, larger-than-life replica of the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy has become the city’s newest landmark and a source of immense excitement. Painted in radiant shades of orange, yellow, green, and blue, the sculpture features the classic globe motif and the triumphant figure lifting the trophy skyward, standing majestically against a backdrop of shimmering skyscrapers, cascading fountains, and the dynamic energy of the city.

Families, young fans, tourists, and members of the local Pakistani community are flocking to the site day and night. Children reach out to touch the gleaming surface in wonder, teenagers snap endless selfies, and adults pose proudly, declaring that “this moment will stay with us forever.” The installation is more than a photo opportunity—it is a powerful symbol of Houston’s readiness to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup 2026, igniting dreams and anticipation in every visitor.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and will be the largest tournament in history. It will feature 48 teams competing across 104 matches. The United States will host the lion’s share—78 matches—while Mexico and Canada will each stage 13.

Houston has secured a prime role as one of the key host cities. NRG Stadium (designated Houston Stadium during the tournament) will host seven unforgettable matches, including:

  • Five group-stage fixtures
  • One Round of 32 match
  • One Round of 16 match

Confirmed matches at NRG Stadium (all times Central Time):

  1. June 14, 2026 – Group E: Germany vs. Curaçao (12:00 PM)
  2. June 17, 2026 – Group K: Portugal vs. COD/JAM/NCL (Winner of intercontinental playoff: Congo DR, Jamaica, New Caledonia)
  3. June 20, 2026 – Group F: Netherlands vs. UKR/SWE/POL/ALB (Winner of UEFA playoff: Ukraine, Sweden, Poland, Albania)
  4. June 23, 2026 – Group K: Portugal vs. Uzbekistan
  5. June 26, 2026 – Group stage: Cabo Verde vs. Saudi Arabia
  6. June 29, 2026 – Round of 32: 1C vs. 2F (determined by group standings)
  7. July 4, 2026 – Round of 16: Winner of Match 73 vs. Winner of Match 75 (knockout stage)

Of particular thrill is the fact that Portugal will play two matches in Houston, bringing our all-time favorite player, Cristiano Ronaldo, to the pitch. Ronaldo’s presence alone promises moments of magic, skill, passion, and inspiration—qualities that have made him a global icon and our personal hero.

We—Fahad Khalid Shah and Anabia Khalid Shah—have already made a firm promise to ourselves and to each other: we will attend these historic matches together with our beloved father, Shah Khalid Khan. Watching Ronaldo live under the lights of NRG Stadium, side by side with our father, will be one of the greatest joys of our lives. His leadership, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence continue to inspire us every day.

Houston’s downtown is now alive with the colors and spirit of FIFA. The Discovery Green trophy display marks only the beginning—ticket sales are surging, hotels are preparing, community events are being organized, and the Pakistani diaspora is gearing up to celebrate in style. Economically, the tournament is projected to deliver billions in impact to the city while creating memories that will last generations.

The world is coming to Houston. The beautiful game is about to unfold in spectacular fashion. Get ready—because when Ronaldo steps onto that field, and when the whistle blows, history will be written.
