Islamabad, February 11, 2026: The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) held its 8th Working Council meeting at the WPC Secretariat in Parliament House, bringing together caucus members, policymakers, and senior representatives from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.

The primary agenda focused on a detailed briefing by the ministry on “Enhancing Women’s Participation and Leadership in Climate Governance and Decision-Making Bodies,” in line with Agenda Item No. 2 of the 18th Speaker’s Conference.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Dr. Shahida Rehmani, Tahira Aurangzeb, Rana Ansar, Naeema Kishwar Khan, and Syeda Shehla Raza, along with Senator Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur.

Nazia Zeb Ali, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, briefed participants on key climate initiatives, ongoing programmes, and policy measures undertaken by the government to address environmental challenges. Presenters highlighted strategic frameworks aimed at increasing gender inclusion in climate policy, governance, and institutional decision-making, emphasizing the removal of barriers to women’s meaningful participation in environmental policymaking in line with national and global climate goals.

Members reaffirmed the WPC’s role as a cross-party parliamentary forum committed to strengthening women’s participation in legislative and governance processes. WPC Secretary Dr. Shahida Rehmani stressed the importance of inclusive climate governance and reiterated the caucus’s dedication to promoting women’s rights and political empowerment at all levels of decision-making.

The caucus also announced plans to observe National Women’s Day on February 12, commemorating Pakistan’s historic struggle for women’s rights and celebrating their contributions to national development.

To mark the occasion, the WPC will host a “National Dialogue on Strengthening the Parliamentary Quota System for Women in Pakistan,” bringing together parliamentarians, civil society representatives, policy experts, and gender equality stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing women’s political representation and reinforcing quota systems for meaningful inclusion.

The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to advancing gender equality, inclusive governance, and women’s empowerment through sustained legislative advocacy, policy oversight, and collaboration with government institutions and civil society partners.
