Beijing February 24,2026: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will make an official visit to China from February 25 to 26.

On the matter, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Mao Ning told on Tuesday that this will be Merz’s first visit to China after assuming the position of chancellor of Germany. During the stay in the country, he will meet President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang, respectively.

On the same day, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce revealed that Merz’s cohort will have leaders from nearly 30 major German companies, indicating Germany’s strong interest in strengthening economic and trade relations with China.

According to statistics, in recent years, annual trade between the two countries has exceeded $ 200 billion, and the stock of two-way investments exceeded $ 65 billion. Both correspond to about a quarter of the total value between China and the European Union.
