PAA clarifies overflight traffic amid regional developments

Karachi, March 6,2026: The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has taken note of media reports suggesting a major increase in overflights through Pakistan’s airspace and speculation about large revenue gains.

PAA clarifies that prior to the recent regional developments, daily overflights through Pakistan’s airspace averaged around 650 flights. Following the situation in the Middle East, a temporary surge in air traffic was observed from the South to the North and vice versa, which was efficiently handled by PAA Air Traffic Controllers.

Traffic levels have since shown normal day-to-day variation.

It is also clarified that overflight revenue does not depend solely on the number of aircraft. It is determined by several factors, including the distance flown within Pakistan’s Flight Information Regions (FIRs), applicable air navigation charges, aircraft weight categories, and other related parameters.

Pakistan’s airspace remains safe, efficient, and fully available for international aviation.
