Islamabad, March 30, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held a telephone conversation with António Costa, during which both leaders discussed the evolving situation in the Middle East and reaffirmed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to restore regional peace and stability.

The prime minister briefed the European leader on Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts, which were welcomed and supported by Costa.

The two sides also reviewed Pakistan-European Union relations, highlighting the importance of the GSP Plus status for Pakistan and ongoing economic cooperation.

They discussed preparations for the upcoming Pakistan-EU Business Forum, scheduled to be held in Islamabad at the end of April, aimed at enhancing trade and investment ties.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his desire to visit Brussels at a mutually convenient date to further strengthen engagement with European institutions. He also conveyed his good wishes to Ursula von der Leyen.

Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
