Baku, April 4, 2026: On the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, Azerbaijan has reaffirmed its strong commitment to addressing the severe humanitarian impact of landmines.

Officials highlighted that landmines and unexploded ordnance continue to pose a grave threat to human life across the country, hindering reconstruction efforts and obstructing the safe return of displaced populations.

Azerbaijan remains among the countries most heavily affected by landmine contamination, with large areas still requiring clearance and risk mitigation.

Calling for enhanced global cooperation, Azerbaijan urged the international community to strengthen support for humanitarian demining initiatives and assistance to victims.

“A mine-free future is essential for sustainable peace, development, and human security,” the statement emphasized.
