Islamabad, April 9, 2026: Christian Stocker, Federal Chancellor of Austria, held a cordial telephone conversation with Shehbaz Sharif earlier today to discuss ongoing diplomatic developments in the Middle East.

During the conversation, the leaders fondly recalled their recent meeting in Vienna in February 2026, where bilateral relations and regional issues were discussed. Prime Minister Sharif expressed appreciation for Chancellor Stocker’s strong endorsement and support for Pakistan’s role in facilitating the recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire and the resumption of negotiations between the two sides.

Both leaders emphasized the critical importance of ensuring that the ceasefire is fully respected by all parties. They noted that adherence to the ceasefire would strengthen the prospects of successful negotiations, ultimately contributing to lasting peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The exchange highlighted the close diplomatic coordination between Pakistan and Austria, as well as their shared commitment to promoting dialogue, regional security, and global stability.
