Islamabad, April 16, 2026: Oumer Hussien Oba, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, called on Jam Kamal Khan, Federal Minister for Commerce, at the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad on Thursday to discuss avenues for strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, both sides held comprehensive discussions on initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral collaboration in trade, investment, connectivity, tourism, and cultural exchanges. The dialogue reflected the shared commitment of Pakistan and Ethiopia to deepen their longstanding diplomatic and economic ties.

The two dignitaries agreed to establish a Joint Trade Committee in line with the bilateral trade agreement signed in 2023. The initiative is expected to facilitate structured engagement and promote greater economic cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassador Dr. Oumer underscored the importance of enhanced connectivity between Ethiopia and Pakistan, noting that improved logistics and transport links are vital for boosting trade, investment, and tourism. He highlighted Ethiopia’s vast investment potential, particularly in the agriculture, manufacturing, information and communication technology (ICT), and mining sectors, and invited the Pakistani business community to explore these opportunities.

Minister Jam Kamal Khan acknowledged the significant scope for expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. He recalled his recent visit to Ethiopia during Pakistan’s Single Country Exhibition held in Addis Ababa in 2025, describing it as a milestone in strengthening commercial relations between the two countries.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to deepening economic engagement with Ethiopia, the Minister assured the Ambassador of his full support in fostering a more integrated and mutually beneficial partnership. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing optimism about the future of Pakistan-Ethiopia relations.
