Islamabad, May 15, 2026: Former Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Zubair Mahmood Hayat has emphasized that economic prosperity is closely linked with health and education, stating that a healthy nation contributes to a stronger workforce, increased productivity, and sustainable economic growth.

He expressed these views while addressing the Sarwar Shahida Trust Cardiovascular Health Seminar held at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) as chief guest.

The seminar was attended by members of the business community, medical experts, social figures, and representatives of civil society.

Gen. (R) Zubair Mahmood Hayat, who is also Patron of the Sarwar Shahida Trust, said the growing burden of cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases poses a serious challenge to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.

He observed that Pakistan ranks among countries facing a high prevalence of several critical diseases, underscoring the need for urgent and coordinated efforts from both the public and private sectors.

Highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, he stressed that promoting healthy lifestyles, regular medical checkups, and awareness at the family, workplace, and community levels has become essential.

He also urged philanthropists and welfare organizations to support institutions working in the fields of healthcare and education.

Speaking on the occasion, President ICCI Sardar Tahir Mehmood highlighted the chamber’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and said the business community strongly believes in supporting institutions working for social welfare, healthcare, education, and community development.

He remarked that a healthy business community is critical for economic stability and national progress, adding that awareness seminars and preventive healthcare campaigns can help reduce the growing incidence of fatal diseases.

President of Sarwar Shahida Trust Shoaib Sarwar Hashmi delivered a detailed presentation on cardiovascular health and stressed the importance of healthy lifestyles, balanced diets, physical activity, and timely medical examinations in preventing life-threatening illnesses.

Medical experts Saeed Ellahi and Jehanzeb Khan also shared practical recommendations aimed at increasing public awareness regarding preventive healthcare and early diagnosis.

The event was moderated by ICCI Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub, who highlighted the chamber’s role in promoting social welfare and public awareness initiatives.

Among others present at the seminar were ICCI Vice President Irfan Chaudhry, former ICCI President Zahid Maqbool, executive members, senior chamber representatives, and officials of Sarwar Shahida Trust.
