Islamabad, June 28, 2026: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) on Sunday announced a formal electoral alliance for the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on July 27.
The announcement was made during a joint press conference in Islamabad attended by senior leaders of both parties from Azad Kashmir, who expressed confidence that the alliance would strengthen their electoral prospects and enhance cooperation between the two political forces.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP leader Chaudhry Yasin described the agreement as the beginning of a new phase of political collaboration between the PPP and JUI-F in Azad Kashmir.
He said the PPP had consistently raised the Kashmir issue at national and international forums and remained committed to safeguarding the rights and aspirations of the people of Azad Kashmir.
Chaudhry Yasin announced that candidates contesting from constituencies LA-14 and LA-23 would be joint nominees of the PPP and JUI-F under the alliance arrangement.
JUI-F Azad Kashmir chief Maulana Saeed Yousaf termed the alliance a historic development, noting that it marked the first formal electoral partnership between the two parties in the region.
He said the PPP would support JUI-F candidates in two constituencies, while JUI-F would back PPP nominees in all other constituencies across Azad Kashmir as part of a broader seat-adjustment formula.
The leaders expressed optimism that coordinated campaigning and vote-sharing arrangements would improve their chances in the upcoming polls and provide voters with a united political platform.
Political observers believe the alliance could significantly influence the electoral dynamics in Azad Kashmir, where major political parties have intensified their campaigns ahead of the July 27 elections.
The AJK Legislative Assembly elections are expected to be keenly contested, with parties actively mobilising support across the region in the run-up to polling day.
