Islamabad, July 6, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday met María Fernanda Espinosa, former foreign minister of Ecuador and a candidate for the position of United Nations secretary-general, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for strengthening multilateralism and the central role of the UN in global affairs.

According to the Foreign Office, Dar welcomed Espinosa and underscored Pakistan’s commitment to a stronger and more effective multilateral system led by the United Nations.

During the meeting, the deputy prime minister expressed hope that the next UN secretary-general would undertake much-needed reforms within the world body and ensure implementation of longstanding United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly those relating to Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the unresolved disputes remained critical to achieving lasting peace in the Middle East and South Asia.

Dar also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respect for international law and treaties, and active international cooperation aimed at global peace and prosperity.
