Islamabad, July 14, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the objectives and principles of the United Nations Charter during a meeting with Michelle Bachelet Jeria, a candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General.
During the meeting in Islamabad, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for international law and respect for international treaties, emphasizing the United Nations’ central role in advancing the global development agenda.
He stressed that the UN must remain responsive to the needs and aspirations of developing countries while continuing to promote inclusive and sustainable development worldwide.
The deputy prime minister also underscored the importance of resolving international disputes through the faithful implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions as a prerequisite for lasting global peace. In this context, he highlighted the need to address the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the Palestine issue in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.
Michelle Bachelet commended Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote regional peace and stability and appreciated the country’s longstanding and valuable contributions to the United Nations.
