Rawalpindi, July 14, 2026: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is on a high-level official visit to Türkiye aimed at further strengthening the longstanding strategic and defence partnership between the two brotherly countries, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
According to the military’s media wing, the visit reflects the deep-rooted historical ties, mutual trust and shared strategic vision that continue to underpin the defence relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye.
During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir held a series of high-level engagements with Türkiye’s political and military leadership, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler.
The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security, the evolving geopolitical environment, and ways to further enhance bilateral strategic and defence cooperation. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye and expanding collaboration to address emerging regional and global security challenges.
President Erdoğan received the Pakistani military chief in Ankara, while the Turkish Presidency shared details of the meeting on its official X account.
At the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, Field Marshal Asim Munir was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour before holding detailed talks with Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. The two military leaders reviewed regional security dynamics, exchanged views on professional military matters and discussed measures to further deepen defence cooperation.
In recognition of his outstanding services and contributions to strengthening military relations between the two countries, General Bayraktaroğlu conferred the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal on Field Marshal Asim Munir.
The army chief also visited the headquarters of the Turkish Land Forces, where he met Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel. Their discussions focused on regional security developments and expanding bilateral military cooperation.
As part of his official engagements, Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of modern Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, where he laid a floral wreath and paid tribute to Atatürk’s visionary leadership, acknowledging the deep historical bonds between Pakistan and Türkiye.
The Turkish Embassy in Pakistan, in a post on X, said the Pakistani military chief was accorded a guard of honour, adding that the enduring defence and military cooperation between the two countries—rooted in brotherhood, mutual trust and a shared strategic vision—continues to grow stronger.
The Turkish Armed Forces also confirmed that bilateral and inter-delegation meetings were held during the visit to further strengthen military collaboration.
The visit follows General Metin Tokel’s trip to Pakistan last month, during which he met Field Marshal Asim Munir as well as the chiefs of the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force. Those discussions focused on regional security and enhancing bilateral defence cooperation.
According to the ISPR, the ongoing high-level military exchanges demonstrate the shared resolve of Pakistan and Türkiye to further deepen their multifaceted defence relationship and continue working closely to promote regional peace, stability and security.
