Islamabad, July 16,2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Shanghai on Thursday, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, the digital economy and CPEC 2.0.
The bilateral meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dar was accompanied by Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Adviser to the Chief Minister of Punjab on Artificial Intelligence and Special Initiatives Ali Mustafa Dar, Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) Bilal Bin Saqib, Additional Secretary (Asia Pacific) Dr. Syed Asad Ali Gillani, and Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in China, Aizaz Khan.
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers reviewed the full spectrum of Pakistan-China bilateral relations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries.
They underscored the importance of advancing high-quality development under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC 2.0) and enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology, the digital economy and artificial intelligence.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments and reaffirmed their resolve to maintain close coordination on issues of mutual interest.
According to the Foreign Office, the meeting further reinforced Pakistan-China strategic cooperation and reflected both countries’ shared commitment to innovation-driven development and collaboration in emerging technologies.
Dar is currently in Shanghai to attend the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and to represent Pakistan as a founding member of the newly established World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO).
