Quetta, July 17, 2026: Pakistan’s economic future is closely linked to the vast potential of Balochistan, a province endowed with abundant natural resources, a strategic coastline, and a unique geographical position connecting South Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East, speakers said at a seminar in Quetta.

The views were shared by Yasin Joyia, Honorary Consul General of Sri Lankan in Lahore, during his keynote address as the guest speaker at NWB 20 held at Bilal Auditorium, Quetta Cantonment.

Speaking on the theme, “Commerce opportunities for Pakistan – Role of Balochistan,” Joyia said Balochistan is no longer merely a resource-rich province but is emerging as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s future economic transformation. He said that with visionary planning, infrastructure development and sustained investment, the province has the potential to become one of the region’s leading trade and logistics hubs.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Gwadar Port, Joyia described it as a gateway to international commerce capable of linking Pakistan with Central Asia, China, the Gulf region and other global markets. He said improved connectivity through highways, rail networks and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) could significantly enhance Pakistan’s trade competitiveness while generating employment and promoting industrial growth.

He said Balochistan’s rich reserves of minerals, energy resources, fisheries, agriculture and tourism offer significant opportunities for both domestic and foreign investors. However, he stressed that unlocking the province’s full potential requires political stability, transparent governance, modern infrastructure and meaningful participation of local communities in development initiatives.

Addressing students, entrepreneurs, policymakers and business leaders attending the event, Joyia encouraged young Pakistanis to embrace entrepreneurship, innovation and technology-driven businesses. He said equipping youth with quality education and practical skills would strengthen the country’s economic resilience while creating sustainable employment opportunities.

The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment during which participants discussed investment prospects, regional trade integration, export diversification and strategies to accelerate economic development in Balochistan.

Participants appreciated the keynote address, describing it as a timely and thought-provoking discussion on Pakistan’s economic future.

The event concluded with a renewed emphasis on Balochistan’s strategic location, abundant natural resources and expanding infrastructure as key drivers of Pakistan’s long-term economic development. Speakers noted that with effective policies, increased investment and inclusive growth, the province has the potential to become a major engine of national prosperity and a bridge connecting Pakistan with regional and global markets.
