Murree, August 2, 2026: Murree Police facilitated the safe movement of more than 2.42 million vehicles and provided security to millions of tourists visiting the hill station during the first seven months of 2026, with no major untoward incident reported, according to an analytical report submitted to the Punjab Police leadership.
The report, prepared by District Police Officer (DPO) Murree Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer and submitted to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab, attributes the successful management of the unprecedented tourist influx to a comprehensive security strategy, enhanced traffic management and data-driven policing.
According to the report, July recorded the highest tourist activity of the year, with 556,679 vehicles entering Murree city and 455,771 vehicles exiting, making it the busiest month for tourism and traffic.
Data generated through the Intelligence Traffic Management System (ITMS) showed a dramatic increase in visitor numbers compared to June, with more than one million combined vehicle entry and exit movements recorded at district and city monitoring points. The figures reflected a 107 per cent increase in vehicle movement at district entry points and a 35 per cent rise in traffic entering the city’s central areas.
The month-wise ITMS data revealed a gradual increase in tourist traffic during the first quarter of the year, with 327,944 vehicles entering Murree in January, 277,767 in February, 281,283 in March, and 243,303 in April. Tourist arrivals accelerated during the summer season, reaching 321,171 entries in May, 411,935 in June, before peaking at 556,679 entries in July.
Despite the heavy seasonal rush, Murree Police maintained continuous deployment across the district to ensure smooth traffic flow, effective law enforcement and the safety of visitors.
DPO Dr. Muhammad Raza Tanveer said the police had implemented a two-tier traffic management framework to efficiently regulate the growing influx of tourists.
Under the strategy, vehicular movement is monitored at outer district entry points to regulate traffic before congestion develops, while additional police personnel are dynamically deployed at high-density areas, including Mall Road, major intersections and parking zones, to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow and public safety.
The DPO said Murree Police would continue to adopt data-driven smart policing and modern traffic management techniques to facilitate tourists and ensure a safe, secure and hassle-free travel experience during upcoming holiday seasons.
