Islamabad, August 11, 2026: OIC-COMSTECH organised a two-day training course on “Engineering of AI-Driven Systems” on August 10 and 11 under its COMSTECH Expert Service and ASEA-UNINET programmes.
The course was hosted by the COMSTECH Center for Training and Research on AI and Emerging Technologies, with around 60 participants attending physically and more than 200 participants from OIC Member and Observer States joining virtually.
Ambassador of Austria to Pakistan Wolfgang Oliver Kutschera attended the inaugural session as the guest of honour.
Speaking at the session, the ambassador said artificial intelligence was fundamentally transforming the way software was designed, developed and maintained.
He emphasised the need for engineers and researchers across OIC countries to be equipped not only to use AI tools but also to understand, govern and shape them responsibly.
Kutschera described the training as a reflection of the valuable partnership between OIC-COMSTECH and Johannes Kepler University Linz. He said the course would strengthen participants’ understanding of AI-driven software engineering, its applications across the software development lifecycle, and the ethical and governance challenges associated with emerging technologies.
Addressing the inaugural session, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary briefed participants on the ASEA-UNINET Programme and its role in strengthening academic, scientific and technological cooperation between Pakistani and Austrian institutions.
He highlighted COMSTECH’s continued efforts to connect researchers and institutions from OIC Member States with leading international universities and experts.
The course was led by Dr. Atif Mashkoor, Associate Professor at Johannes Kepler University Linz and an expert in rigorous model-driven engineering of software-intensive, safety-critical systems.
Dr. Mashkoor also serves as Requirements and Process Manager at Fronius International and previously served as Founding Managing Director of the Sino-Pak Center for Artificial Intelligence at Pak-Austria Fachhochschule.
He is also an adjunct faculty member at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, and has authored more than 100 research publications in requirements engineering, formal methods and AI-driven software engineering.
The training reflects OIC-COMSTECH’s commitment to strengthening capacity in artificial intelligence, promoting international scientific cooperation and preparing researchers and professionals across the Muslim world to contribute responsibly to the development of emerging technologies.
