Islamabad, August 12, 2026: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges has expressed grave concern over the circulation of a fake appointment letter falsely attributed to the National Assembly Secretariat and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to conduct a further investigation and submit a detailed report at its next meeting.
The decision was taken during the 17th meeting of the committee, held at Parliament House in Islamabad under the chairmanship of MNA Muhammad Afzal.
The committee considered the circulation on social media platforms of a fake appointment/offer letter issued in the name of Abdul Wajid and falsely presented as an official document of the National Assembly Secretariat.
The Additional Director General of the FIA informed the committee that Abdul Wajid had been arrested and produced before the relevant court, which granted his physical remand for investigation.
According to the FIA, the accused admitted during interrogation that he had prepared fake National Assembly identity cards bearing his name as well as a forged appointment letter showing him as an Assistant Director at the National Assembly of Pakistan.
The FIA also informed the committee that the accused’s mobile phone and laptop had been taken into possession under a proper seizure memo for examination and forensic analysis.
After deliberations, the committee directed the FIA to further investigate the matter and present a comprehensive report at its next meeting.
The committee also expressed concern over the absence of Jawad ul Hassan, Metropolitan Officer (Regulation) of the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore, and directed that he be summoned at the next meeting.
It also considered Question of Privilege No. 71 moved by Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, MNA, against former Director General of the Solid Waste Management Board Imtiaz Ali Shah. The mover informed the committee that the former official had not obtained written permission for his absence. The committee consequently decided to summon him to its next meeting.
The committee further considered amendments proposed by Dr Nafisa Shah to Rules 295, 296, 30, 31 and 205 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
After detailed deliberations and obtaining views from the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs and Law and Justice, the committee recommended that the proposed amendments to Rules 295, 296 and 205 should not be passed, while amendments to Rules 30 and 31 should be approved.
The committee also considered an amendment proposed by MNA Aliya Kamran to Rule 44 and recommended that it should not be passed.
It subsequently examined proposed amendments to Rules 118 and 119 and the proposed omission of Rule 234A. The committee recommended that the amendment to Rule 118 be passed with amendments and that Rule 234A be omitted as proposed. A decision on the proposed amendment to Rule 119 was deferred until the next meeting.
Questions of Privilege moved by Makhdoom Syed Sami ul Hassan Gillani were also deferred due to the non-availability of the mover.
The committee adopted the report of the sub-committee constituted under the convenership of MNA Azhar Qayyum Nahra.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Ch Naseer Ahmed Abbas, Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Waseem Qadir, Azhar Qayyum Nahra, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Mir Khan Muhammad Jamali, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Shagufta Jummani, Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, Sanjay Perwani, Naeema Kishwer Khan and Ch Muhammad Shahbaz Babar, who participated virtually. Aliya Kamran and Dr Nafisa Shah also attended the meeting as movers.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry was present, along with senior officials from the Ministries of Parliamentary Affairs and Law and Justice and the FIA.
