Islamabad, August 12, 2026: President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday received the credentials of Italy’s Ambassador-designate to Pakistan Ugo Ciarlatani at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
During his meeting with the ambassador-designate, the president expressed confidence that Ciarlatani’s tenure would contribute to further strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Italy.
President Zardari noted the steady growth in bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, and said bilateral trade had surpassed the $1 billion mark.
He also welcomed the signing of an agreement abolishing visa requirements for diplomatic passport holders, describing it as a positive development in bilateral relations.
The president appreciated Italy’s support for Pakistan’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2025–26 term.
He also highlighted the important role of the Pakistani community in Italy, describing it as a bridge between the two countries and an important contributor to stronger people-to-people ties.
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Foreign Secretary were also present during the meeting.
