Islamabad, August 21, 2026: Pakistan and 11 other countries have strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting the Abu al-Duhur military airbase in northwestern Syria, describing the attacks as a serious escalation and a violation of Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political unity.
The condemnation was issued in a joint statement by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Algeria, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Somalia.
The foreign ministers expressed deep concern over what they described as the continued targeting and degradation of Syrian territory and infrastructure, warning that such actions risk undermining Syria’s efforts to restore security, rebuild national institutions and address the humanitarian consequences of years of conflict.
The ministers stressed that Israel’s continued violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity could further escalate regional tensions, undermine peace and stability and erode respect for international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
They called on the international community to adopt a firm, clear and principled position against what they described as continued aggression against Syria.
The ministers also urged the international community to take concrete measures, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter, to end the violations and ensure full respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
They further called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas they have occupied, saying such steps were necessary to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace and stability.
The foreign ministers underscored the imperative of respecting Syria’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and political unity, while rejecting any attempt to undermine them.
The joint statement comes as Pakistan and other regional and Muslim-majority countries continue to stress the need for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation and preserve Syria’s territorial integrity.
